Shreztah Blends Jungle, Halftime, and Footwork in Standout Single “Haul It Up!”

Article By: Jonas Loeb

Shreztah’s latest release, “Haul It Up!” on Hemi.wav brings together sharp percussion, experimental movement, and influences from across the bass spectrum to deliver a forward-driving experience that feels both familiar yet fresh.

The track makes for a striking first impression, evolving drastically as it plays and shifting to never lingering in the same place too long. To give listeners a deeper look, Mugic.us spoke with Shreztah about his writing process, how the track fits into his evolution, and the elements that helped shape “Haul It Up!”.

INTERVIEW WITH SHREZTAH:

1. Have you had the opportunity to play this track out yet? How has the reaction been?

“Yes I have been able to play it in a set. Once during my Moonrocks renegade set at Elements this past August, and my homie Aircastles told me she played it in her set at Camp Alderwild in August as well. Both times I have been told that it was received well and it went off.”

2. In my view, one of the most standout elements of this track is the percussion. When writing this, which element did you start with, and was this different than your usual process?

“I always start with the percussion when producing a track and build off of it, but something I have been doing differently as of late is layering my snares with a foley sample to give them more texture which helps them blend better with the rest of the percussion.”

3. How would you describe this track in relation to your sound? Do you view this as an advancement of your sound, or a more experimental departure?

“In relation to my sound this track is heavily inspired by some of my favorite genres. I combined elements of Jungle, minimal Halftime and minimal DnB as well as a small section of footwork in the second half. In the broader spectrum of electronic music it’s definitely more on the experimental end.”
